The Heat Is On!

Check out the latest news on all the 2020 ESFA heats here.

2020 has been a rough year for hospitality. But, slowly, the world looks ready to break bread together again. Informally, in the open air – or big high-ceilinged warehouses. Not at cramped tables in restaurants. The European Street Food Awards have already held national heats in Iceland, Russia, Italy, Scotland, Wales, Poland and – on October 31/November 1, Britain. But a lot of countries are struggling with ‘mass assembly’.

Street food is the food people want to eat right now – served up in the way people want to eat it. The European Street Food Awards is the cornerstone of the biggest street food competition in the world – along with the British Street Food Awards supported by Hellmann’s and the USA Street Food Awards, launching in 2021 – and we always pride ourselves on finding the best that’s out there. But 2020 is a year like no other. And things will inevitably be different.

The line-up for a start. We lost some great traders over the summer. But we’ve being joined by others. Food entrepreneurs who, in the virus, evolved their menus, trimmed any fat and pivoted their businesses to survive. So let’s dig the best of the new breed. The European Street Food Awards have never been more important. There are people eating and drinking on the streets – in a measured way – and once again we’re ready to find our people.
