Fire And Ice And Tacos

The 2025 Icelandic Street Food Awards at Götubitahátíðin – Iceland’s premier street food festival – was the biggest and most successful edition yet, welcoming an estimated 90,000 visitors to Hljómskálagarðurinn in downtown Reykjavík. Over 40 food and drink trucks participated, offering more than 100 different dishes to guests and judges alike.

The Food Truck was awarded the top jury prize this year. Originally from Mexico and now based in Hvolsvöllur, they impressed the panel with authentic flavors and bold execution. Also from the Mexican street food tradition, La Buena Vida took third place, while Siggi Chef —last year’s winner — came in second.

Götubitahátíðin was first launched in 2019 with just 12 trucks by the old harbour in Reykjavík. Since then, it has grown year on year, and the festival is clearly here to stay. “We’re already planning the 2026 edition” says Robert Magnusson, “and are excited to continue strengthening our connection to the European street food scene.”
