Give it up for Freaky Fries who won the People’s Choice vote at the Bulgarian Street Food Awards this weekend – and a €500 prize to support their journey to the grand final of the 2024 European Street Food awards in Germany on October 4-6.

But the Champion, decided by the professional jury at the amazing Station Street Festival in Plovdiv, was La Focacceria Di Choni. Chef Choni got the highest score from the jury and won €1000 to support his journey in October when he represents Bulgaria at the finals in Saarbrucken. And he’s clearly delighted.

Chef Choni calls his winning dish “Roman pizza”, and it’s similar to the Italian pizza bianca. The flat, leavened, oven-baked bread is light, airy and crispy and supports Choni’s imaginative toppings beautifully. Enough to win BIG in Germany?
