Fourth Time Lucky

This is the fourth year that Sigvaldi Jóhannesson, better known as Chef Silli, has won the Icelandic Street Food Awards. Fourth! And the press couldn’t believe it. They really couldn’t. He was voted Champion at the 2023 Icelandic Street Food Awards, hosted by Reykjavik Street Food in Hljómskálagard this weekend. Then the street food legend (and game hunter) went and won the People’s Choice as well! Sigvaldi won with his famous goose burger, rocket, red onion and smoked blue cheese sauce – the dish that won him Best Burger at the grand finale of the 2022 European Street Food Awards in Munich. Will it win again at the grand finale in 2023? In Saarbrucken September 29-October 1?

“The participation and attendance in the area exceeded our wildest hopes, but we believe that over 60,000 people attended this weekend,” says Róbert Aron Magnússon, manager of the Street Bites Festival. “Another thing that caught our attention is the ambition and quality that everyone is putting into the ingredients, as well as the diversity of the food flora. Dishes originating from all continents were offered. The quality and variety has grown from year to year and it’s great to see and experience how the food flora in street food has reached a great place here in Iceland.”

Chef Silli will now head to the grand finale of the 2023 European Street Food Awards in Saarbrucken September 29-October 1 – with victory on his mind! Here are the results in full…..
