It was getting silly. We lost track of just HOW many times Porcobrado were voted champions at the Italian Street Food Awards. Their exquisite pork sandwiches always rocked the European Street Food Awards finals, AND won the Award for Best Sandwich TWICE.

But, at this year’s Italian Street Food Awards, hosted at Avenue Pope John XXIII San Pellegrino Terme (BG) by our beloved partners Eatinero, on June 16-18, we had a NEW champion. With the winners heading to Germany for the grand final of the 2023 European Street Food Awards in Saarbrucken.

And what a lineup of finalists it was! The best food trucks in Italy 🇮🇹, including Van Ver Burger, Basulon, Zanco Gourmet, Fumettoperfetto, CalaBRIOtto, Nanni, Rock Burger Torino, La Polpetteria, Goodfish and Lubrano. Choosing one winner was an impossible decision. So we chose TWO.

The judges chose Van Ver Burger with their signature Bibicù burger – 100% plant based, with ‘Planted’ pulled pork made from pea protein, that they cooked in a smoked BBQ sauce, onion and spices. “We served it with soft creamed potato, hot spicy sauce and fresh lamb’s lettuce, in an organic bun” says Daniele from Van Ver Burger.

“People were impressed by the taste of the burger” he says, “and they hardly recognized the difference between the classic pulled pork and our Planted version. We just wanted to recreate the amazing taste of pulled pork with BBQ sauce that we all used to eat – but without any animal suffering.”

The winner of the People’s Choice was Rock Burger Torino – who won over the crowds with black buns, rock attitude and beef patties to die for. Both winners will now head to the finals of the 2023 European Street Food Awards in Saarbrucken, Germany, on September 29-October 1. Stay tuned, people. Next up, Poland.
