Croatian Crown
The votes are in. And the Food Truck Festival, which was such a hit in Croatia when it launched last summer at Lake Jarun, has chosen its champion. Well done to Mrav Loby, the burger and beer truck. What won it for them? Their classic burger – a 180g beef patty in a brioche bun, all gussied up with egg, caramelized onions, iceberg lettuce, garlic cabbage, truffle chips, truffle cream and garlic sauce. Their stripped-back, old-school menu is already a hit at their permanent site in Zagreb but, thanks to being voted Croatian champion, a second site can’t be far away.
That burger was enough to beat a strong line-up on the “Zagreb Sea”, which included:
Apululu – Indonesian specialties
Barba Q – street food classics
BBQ Hot Yard – grilled food
Happy bike – sweets
Hook&Cook Pula – fish street food specialties
Munchy – Indian and Mediterranean food and desserts
Cocktail Truck – Gin-based cocktails
Frosé
Manjada
Yumy Njumy – featured: Dutch traditional dessert Poffertjes
How will they fare in 2022 when we’re all able to cross borders, and come together to compete against the best of the continent at the grand final of the European Street Food Awards? By the sound of that burger, they’ll do just fine.
