Iceland Hots Up!

Over 15,000 people attended the 2021 Icelandic Street Food Awards in Hljómskálagarður – that’s 5% of the small Northern European country, who turned up with an appetite for the best food out there! The national press were in full attendance, with reports here, here, here and here. And, for the second year running, Silli – the wild game experts – came away as national Champions.

The Icelandic Street Food Awards were held for the first time in 2019 when the vegan restaurant Jömm went on to represent Iceland in the final of the European Street Food Awards in Malmö. This year, the food fight was moved from Reykjavik to Hljómskálagarður and featured an inflatable Irish pub, DJs, a beer truck and six bouncy castles – plus over 20 street food finalists.

The latest heat of the 2021 European Street Food Awards saw competition in several categories, including Best Vegetarian, Best Snack, People’s Choice, Best Looking and – the big one – the Best of the Best with a judging panel that included restaurateur Óli Óli, the influencer Binni Löve, foodie Helgi Svavar, Shruthi Basapa from Grapevine and Stefanía Thors, housewife. This is how the results worked out:
