Don’t Judge Me!
We have advised Titti Qvarnström (the first woman in Scandinavia to win a Michelin star) Karin Ericson (one of Scandinavia’s leading food writers) and Daniel Berlin (the legendary two-star Michelin chef from Malmo) to skip breakfast on Sunday. By agreeing to judge the finals of the 2019 European Street Food Awards, they will have to work their way through two entry dishes from our 21 finalists. That’s 42 plates of food. The food will undoubtedly be exquisite (we release the full menu on Wednesday), but that’s still quite a commitment. Just as well they all love their street food.
“Some people read books to find an exciting yet affordable escape from everyday life” says Titti, who is currently the creative leader for the meeting place FOLK MAT & MÖTEN, the Skånska Drinks forum and is chair number 17 at the Kålrotsakademin. “I enjoy street food – and travel the world via my stomach without even leaving the city!” Titti wrote her first book, Malmö Cooking, with our second judge – food writer Karin Ericson. Karin has been writing for magazines such as the Entertainment Guide for the last 15 years and now runs the instagram account malmofoodstories. She’s sure to find some inspiration at the #EuroSFA.
The pair will be joined by Daniel Berlin, a two-star chef with a restaurant housed in a tiny village cottage an hour north of Malmo. He champions purity of flavour and seasonal ingredients from the surrounding countryside and coastline, with 80% of the kitchens produce harvested from his 3-acre plot during the summer. He’s excited to try the best street food from all over Europe this weekend. “I look forward to eating my way through the competition” he says. “Gastronomy can be experienced in so many ways – and this is the form I very much appreciate. Amazing that this is decided in Malmö! We have high expectations!”
