Street food traders are a really lovely lot. Take Dan Shearman, the boss at the Roadery – he was so moved by what he saw at the Sangatte camp in Calais, that he wanted to do something to help. So he joined up with The Coach And Horses pub in Soho, in September, and — from a hired kitchen – went over to cook for the refugees.
The traders were met by desperate conditions – but a lot of love. “They invited us into their makeshift homes” says Dan, “and shared whatever they had with us. We sat together until the early hours of the morning, singing and laughing. Although their lives were broken, they weren ’t going to allow the same happen to happen to their sprits.”
On January 14-18, the Roadery want to go back. This time with a team of traders that includes Rupert’s Street, Streatza, The Bowler, What The Dickens!, Fleisch Mob and BBQ Dreamz. But they need to raise £10,000 for food and supplies such as sleeping bags, tents, building supplies and basic cooking equipment for people in the camp. Please help.

The traders will also be organizing a London drop off point in December to receive donations of tents, sleeping bags, winter coats and wellington boots.
