The 2018 European Street Food Awards were legendary. The stuff of cave paintings – check them out here. But the 2019 Awards will be even better. We’re growing up, spreading our wings, and after two years in Berlin we are flying off to bring our vibes to Malmo. And we’ll be joined by lots of new countries who are launching national Awards for the first time in 2019 – say hello to Iceland, Latvia, Denmark and Austria! Welcome to the street party! The amazing weekend in Malmo will be one HECK of a food fight….

All summer long, 13 countries will be hosting their own national awards — see the confirmed dates and locations below (with more to be announced). Then, at the end of September, all the national champions will embark on a massive road trip to Sweden to compete in the finals of the ESFA 2019. Whether it’s burger bosses from Belgium, flan fans from Finland or pudding professionals from Portugal, the public will then get to try Europe’s best street food all in one place. Guests will vote for their winner. The prize? One HUGE trophy. Oh, a lifetime of bragging rights.

“Sweden was one of the first countries to really get behind the European Street Food Awards” says Richard Johnson, the Awards’ founder. “They were watching what we were doing from the very start – and turned up to cheer at the Hoppetosse in 2017 and Malzfabrik in 2018. They love a passion project — and that’s how I would describe the ESFA. They like they idea of working together, and – in such fractious times – it’s nice to collaborate. So when they suggested we come to Malmo, with its industrial heart and cool warehouse architecture that opens out onto wild coast and countryside, we jumped at the idea. It felt like a fantastic fit.”
